Dad created something special and his legacy will continue to live on through our wine
– ILARIO MICHELINI
The Michelini Family originated from The Trentino Region of Northern Italy and through the generations have handed down 150yrs of family winemaking tradition. Emo Michelini, the patriarch of the Michelini family was part of the great post WWII immigration wave that changed the face of rural Australia. Emo moved to the Alpine Valleys region in Victoria to begin farming with several other Italian families.
Emo started off growing tobacco which was a lucrative business in those times, however to Emo, tobacco was a job whereas viticulture was in his blood! He was born and raised in the wine industry in Italy and it was in this that his true passion for wine began. In 1982, Emo made the transition into grape growing and in doing so, he pioneered viticulture in the region by establishing what was to become one of the largest vineyards in the region.
Inspired by their father, both Ilario & Dino pursued their passion in Viticulture and have continued the family tradition to this present day. From helping to plant the original foundation grapes in 1982 and subsequent vineyard extensions in recent times to make way for exciting new Italian varietals such as Prosecco, Vermentino, Arneis and Nebbiolo. All of which have seen dramatic interest and consumer demand. With this positive shift in market demand and bold decision making comes a rediscovered passion for the family business, Michelini Wines.
Today Michelini Wines distributes their award-winning wines Australia wide and overseas. With a focus on quality, Italian tradition and service; Michelini Wines continues to grow from strength to strength, creating lasting impressions and a taste of Italy one bottle at a time.
